Driving Home, The Journey Back To Grace

Trapped through his twenties in a cult that preached works and fear, he found the broadcast on late-night drives and began learning and unlearning his way back.

Driving Home, The Journey Back To Grace
That was the start of my journey back to grace.

I grew up in a Christian home, but strayed when I was in college. My sophomore year, I was invited to church by my roommate, who I could see was serious about living the Christian life. I started going to church with him and getting more and more involved, not knowing that it was a religious cult.

I spent my 20's trapped in the cult, where we were constantly manipulated, humiliated, and defrauded of money. They preached a "gospel" of works, effort, and loyalty to the group. They told us that if we ever left, we would be committing "spiritual suicide".

I eventually left, but lived in fear for many years that I had forfeited my salvation when I left. Years later, when I was driving home from a continuing education night class, I found "Wisdom for the Heart" on BBN. I stared listening that night and listened every time I was driving at night. That was the start of my journey back to grace. I became, and still am, a regular listener on the radio and online.

My journey of "learning and unlearning" continues to this day. Wisdom's message of help, hope, and humor through the gospel of Christ has helped me heal and grow in grace and in my faith. Congratulations on 25 years! You have made a tremendous difference and have been used greatly by God to touch believers and unbelievers alike. Here's to 25 more.
